Ghostface Killah is finally ready to drop the long-awaited sequel to his beloved album Supreme Clientele.
On Thursday, July 31, the Wu-Tang Clan rapper announced the release date for his upcoming album Supreme Clientele 2. The project is set to drop in August as a part of Mass Appeal’s “Legend Has It” campaign. Along with the announcement, he also released his new single “Rap Kingpin.” Produced by himself and Scram Jones, Ghostface Killah serves up valuable bars over a sample of Eric B. & Rakim’s “My Melody” and elements of Supreme Clientele’s “Mighty Healthy.”
“Supreme Clientele was a frame of mind and era in time,” Ghostface said in a press release.
“You could never duplicate that feeling, but you can tap back in,” he continued. “We dug in the files from years ago and pulled together a Clientele that is Supreme! Get ready, Supreme Clientele 2 is now."
This isn’t the first time Ghostface Killah has referred to himself as a “Rap Kingpin.” The title is a nod to his opening verse on Raekwon‘s “Ice Water” in which he raps, “Check out the rap kingpin, the Black Jesus/I know a few n***as sniff coke and caught seizures.” He also assumes the role on “Nutmeg,” the second track on Supreme Clientele, where he spits, “You fake cats done heard it first/On how I sh**ted on your turf that time/Cuban Link verse, yo, ‘Check out the rap kingpin,’ summertime fine, jewelry drippin’/Face in the box, I seen your ear twitchin’.”
Look out for Supreme Clientele 2 dropping August 22. Listen to “Rap Kingpin” below.
